President Marcos has ordered government agencies to provide assistance to communities affected by ashfall from Mayon Volcano, according to reports.

The directive follows recent volcanic activity at Mayon, including lava effusion with collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents that occurred on April 8, 2026, according to documentation from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

About Mayon Volcano

Mayon Volcano is located in Albay province in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. The volcano is known for its near-perfect cone shape and is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines.

Pyroclastic density currents are fast-moving mixtures of hot gas and volcanic matter that flow down the slopes of volcanoes during eruptions. These flows, along with lava effusion, can produce ashfall that affects surrounding communities.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is the government agency responsible for monitoring volcanic activity and providing warnings to communities in the Philippines.
