In a corresponding roster move, the Blue Jays designated left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer for assignment.
The injury represents another setback for Barger, who had previously been on the injured list earlier in the season. Right elbow inflammation is a common injury among baseball players that can affect both hitting and throwing mechanics.
When a player is designated for assignment, as in Lauer's case, the team has seven days to either trade the player, release him, or send him to the minor leagues if he clears waivers.
