Variety Show Films Temple Challenge in Tainan

The popular Taiwanese variety show "Variety Show Collection" (綜藝大集合) recently filmed an episode at the God Temple in Xiaying District, Tainan, featuring physically demanding challenges for its hosts and participants.

Turtle-Themed Game Reflects Temple's Deity

Show producer A-Xiang designed a game called "Turtle Please Go Slowly" (烏龜請慢走) specifically to honor the temple's primary deity, Xuantian Shangdi, who is traditionally depicted with his left foot stepping on a turtle and right foot on a snake. The challenge required participants to wear turtle shells on their backs and crawl backwards toward a flag, with the first person to grab the flag declared the winner.

Intense Three-Minute Competition

Host Guo Zhongyou faced what was described as a rare strong opponent during the challenge. The competition lasted approximately three minutes with both participants locked in a standoff before Guo's opponent accidentally fell, allowing Guo to claim victory.

The extended physical effort took a visible toll on Guo Zhongyou, who appeared pale-faced by the end of the challenge due to his determination to persist throughout the lengthy competition. His display of sportsmanship earned enthusiastic applause from everyone present at the filming.

Show's Temple Location

The episode was filmed at the God Temple in Xiaying District, Tainan, known for its worship of Xuantian Shangdi. The show's production team incorporated the temple's religious significance into their game design, creating entertainment that reflected the local spiritual traditions.

"Variety Show Collection" regularly films location episodes at various sites across Taiwan, often incorporating local cultural elements into their programming format.
